Elysian Woods Lane

About this Project

Idyllic location. The word “elysian” describes a blissful, idyllic state—and this verdant site overlooking Phillippi Creek lives up to that name. The natural bounty of Old Florida is alive and well in this unspoiled oasis.

The vision. Our client dreamed of a contemporary, light-filled sanctuary that invited the breathtaking natural splendor inside.

The solution. A contemporary, multi-level structure with a cunning cantilever design was our answer. The interior fireplace wall functions as a central structural support, creating a dramatic vault in the great room, and extending as a 14-foot overhang on the exterior. Thanks to the central support system, the house seems lighter than air. Even better? Every room in the house has front-row seats onto nature’s splendor. The result is a joyful experience that joins the ever-evolving beauty of the landscape with sleek and serene interior spaces.

Gravity-free. The gravity-defying feeling flows seamlessly throughout the interior. A floating entry stairway only adds to the sense of delight and surprise. Sightlines are unobstructed at every level. Clerestory lighting and floor-to-ceiling windows put the drama of nature centerstage.

A geometry of order. Design for living is our key principle. The cantilevered overhang shelters the poolside patio. Interior finishes offer crisp lines and textures. A geometric sense of order and proportion. An organic contrast of natural materials abounds. Wood, stone and other earthy materials echo the unspoiled ecosystem of Phillippi Creek. Alternating all-white walls create a contemporary contrast. The house doesn’t compete with nature—it invites it in. And, from every angle, that invitation is accepted.
